D’s ABC Smoothie

My growing teenage son, Daniel (affectionately referred to as “D”), drinks this ABC (Almond Banana Chocolate) smoothie when he comes home from an intense day of lacrosse or when he just needs that extra boost of energy. It’s filled with antioxidants, potassium, natural sugars, healthy fats, and hidden veggies to keep a hungry boy and his friends satisfied for hours. Good for the kid in all of us!

INGREDIENTS

Serves 1-2

½-1 cup almond milk (use less for a thicker consistency)
½ cup cauliflower, steamed and frozen
1 tablespoon cacao powder or unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tablespoon almond butter (or organic peanut butter)
1 large banana, sliced and frozen ahead of time
¼ avocado (or more)
½ teaspoon vanilla
1 scoop protein powder (optional)
Pinch of sea salt
2 teaspoons shredded coconut (optional but good)
1-2 teaspoons cacao nibs (pulse at end)
Top with dark chocolate shavings or more cacao nibs for an extra decadent smoothie

OPTIONAL:
1 teaspoon maca
1 tablespoon oats or flax meal (for fiber!)
collagen in place of protein
extra veggies (spinach, zucchini!)

METHOD

Place the almond milk and frozen cauliflower in the blender and blend until smooth. Add the remaining ingredients, except cacao nibs, blend again until silky smooth & creamy. Add in cacao nibs and pulse a few times. Pour into a glass and sprinkle cacao nibs or chocolate shavings on top. Yum!
