Pumpkin Spice Smoothie

With the nostalgic flavors of a pumpkin pie, this smoothie is an absolute fall favorite in my house. And while I’m not saying orange is the new green, this is my seasonal buzz color. Pumpkin is high in antioxidants and a great source of energy to keep you fueled throughout the day. The anti-inflammatory  and healing properties from ginger, cinnamon, turmeric, and nutmeg are an excellent precursor to winter. Blend this up anytime you need a boost!

INGREDIENTS

6 ounces almond milk (for a smoothie bowl, use less nut milk for a thicker consistency)
½ cup pureed pumpkin (if canned, make sure BPA free)
1 banana, sliced & frozen
1 tablespoon of plant-based vanilla protein powder*
1 tablespoon almond butter (cashew butter works too)
½-inch slice fresh ginger root
½ teaspoon cinnamon
pinch of nutmeg
½-inch slice fresh turmeric (optional)
½ cup cauliflower, pre-steamed and frozen
1 chopped date (or a drop of stevia for a lower sugar option)
Pinch of sea salt
Top with pumpkin seeds and additional cinnamon

*Optional: Omit the banana and use one scoop of plant-based protein for a lower sugar option.

Variation: add in one cup of spinach for a green pumpkin smoothie
